Because of the financial crisis it has become more and more customary for car manufacturers to sell their own technologies and to purchase together several car parts, in an attempt to reduce costs. To quote the Spyker Cars-CEO, Victor Muller, it is absolutely important that the cooperation contributes to the image of the car brand. According to a study it seems that car brands with a very well-known and great reputation have the best sales. Besides, image and styling have become more significant than the cars' technology. Today it's all about the emotional relationship that consumers have with their car.

What I found interesting about this article was that it proves that a lot of people, don’t choose their car because of its new and improved technology, but because of what the car makes them feel and how the car looks like ( or maybe even better, how the car makes them look). For example Top Gear, a BBC TV program, has a big influence on this, espacially when the presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, calls people with a Porsche c*cks.

I totally agree on that. Technology of the most car brands is so good and nearly equal, that the choice of a brand do not longer depends on the performances of the car, but more and more on the car's personality.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis fact reflects in reality: when big car companies have technical problems (like Toyota during the last year), this will have only a little impact on the company's sales. People trust technology these times and problems don't lead to extremely damaged brands.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI tend to agree with you on that Lien but in my opinion there is still a significant difference between different car brands' technologies. I think this derives from the different strategies car builders obtain during the years, off course differences have slimmed because of the progressing global technology. Despite of that car manufacturers tend to put their main attention on different car parts and their qualities. If we look at hybird cars that are entering the scene recently it seems that not every car manufacturer has already reached the same level of technology, I am aware that this might be a matter of time. On the other hand it could also be that these car builders don’t have their hopes set on building a hybrid car with that technology and have other targets they want to achieve. So in my opinion people do get attracted by a car brand and the brand itself does have a big influence but I don’t think you should put off the influence of the car’s technology. For exemple: How much does the car pollute?
